Cataract Evaluation

Cataracts are a very common cause of vision loss in the world. They occur in virtually everyone over the age of 65. They are also found in younger people, especially those with certain health conditions such as diabetes. Fortunately, modern surgical techniques and instruments make cataract surgery safe, effective, and painless for most people.

We will perform a complete eye exam on your visit (see complete eye exam, what to expect) to determine the cause of your decreased vision. If a cataract is found to be the cause of vision loss, cataract surgery may be an option. The risk and benefits of cataract surgery will be discussed thoroughly. If the surgery is scheduled, more testing will be necessary. This includes calculating the power of the IOL (implant) to be used for your surgery. We will discuss implant options, including implants that may allow both near and distance vision without glasses after surgery. The North Dakota Eye Clinic offers the most comprehensive selection of lens implants in the entire region.

The surgery will be scheduled in the state-of-the-art North Dakota Surgery Center. This will be a “same-day” procedure generally taking minutes, and often without stitches or needles.
